Another 1, 2 for Wessex

Over the weekend the Royal Southern Yacht Club played host to the British Keelboat League Youth (u25) Qualifier and FISU selector event.

In a breezy weekend the 2 Wessex teams showed their dominance to bring home a comfortable 1st and 2nd Overall. Wessex 1 (Matt Whitfield, Jamie Diamond, Tom Ballantine, and Sophie Hertiage) won an impressive 7/10 races with Wessex 2 (Quentin Bes-Green, Titus Treneman, Sam Munday, Nick Denney and Fraser Woodley) hot on their heels in 2nd place overall with it going down to the last race.

Saturday saw a breeze building from 12 knots to 18+ knots with our teams showing adaptability to be at the front of the fleet on all different conditions. At the end of the day Wessex 1 had a small lead with Wessex 2 tied for 2nd with RORC.

Both Wessex teams showed impressive speed and tactical nous to distance themselves from the chasing pack on Sunday in a tricky Solent breeze, despite some sore heads courtesy of Jesters, the downfall of many a Wessex team in the past. Wessex 2 had the best of the day in the strong breeze to take a string of bullets to secure the Wessex dominance

Wessex were well represented with over 15 current and former members over the 12 teams.

A big thank you goes out to the Royal Southern Yacht Club all the volunteers that made for such a successful weekend racing
