This weekend 3 Wessex team racing teams spent another weekend at our home club Spinnaker taking part in the BUSA Team Racing Qualifiers. Saturday got off to a slow start due to some very light, and very shifty, wind conditions. But after a bit of waiting around, racing finally gained momentum and 54 races were sailed on Saturday. As we had some catching up to do, racing on Sunday was brought forward to a start time of 8.30 (luckily none of our teams were in the first race!) Our teams had a tough battle at the top of the leader board, after Saturday there were quite a few teams with only one loss; however, a much more constant breeze on the Sunday meant each team sailed 16 races. Southampton Green and Southampton Red both finished the weekend with 14/16 wins alongside Oxford Blue. It was Southampton Green who came out on top in the tie break, followed by Oxford then Southampton Red. Southampton Blue were not far behind in 5th, tied on race wins with Imperial Blue, but Imperial clinched 4th by just 0.1 of a point. Blue will get another chance to qualify for finals at the playoffs in a months’ time. A big thank you to the race team for getting through so many races in challenging conditions!!
