Welsh Dragon 2019

Southampton finishes 1st, 2nd and 5th at this year’s Welsh dragon.

On Friday the 22nd of November, we were welcomed to Cardiff with a social hosted by Cardiff uni at Retros club on the private top floor.

There were no slip ups during racing on Saturday (unlike the night before #mychinhurts). Wessex ended the day in high spirits - having finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th including Wessex alumni. Ready for a carb-loaded meal that night to refuel for the extreme light winds forecast ...for Sunday. We eventually all made it to a jam packed SU for the night - Jamie was as lost in Cardiff as he was on the race course #sillyfresh.

Racing commenced a little late on Sunday due to the wind - or lack of. A bit of confusion after the round robin due to the very equally matched teams, congrats Crispchin. This lead to a dramatic sail off between Southampton Green and Red for a place in the Semi-finals. The final was between Southampton Green and Blue; Blue won the event keeping their 100% win record. #Wessexdomination

Thank you to Cardiff University and Cardiff Bay Yacht Club for organising the event and for their hospitality.

Also congratulations to Southampton sailors who travelled to Oxford for the Magnum and to Swansea for the Spartan over the last few weeks. Both teams reach a gold fleet at Oxford for the first time in years! And Southampton green won the Swansea spartan! Lots of very impressive sailing from Southampton in the last month! Go Wessex! #wessexlove
